Kanazawa University held the "NIKKEI Regional Revitalization Forum in Kanazawa" on September 20, 2025, in cooperation with Nikkei Inc. at Natural Science Lecture Hall in Kakuma Campus. The forum brought together participants from a variety of fields, including universities, industry, and local governments, to introduce past recovery efforts and disseminate local information.
In his opening message, Hiroshi Hase, Ishikawa Governor, delivered a video message, saying, "I would like to make Noto's recovery a model case for creative reconstruction from disasters that will occur in Japan in the future." Next, Takashi Wada, President of Kanazawa University, continued at the venue, "We would like to contribute to solving regional issues in Noto by promoting fusion research and education that transcends the boundaries of humanities, science, and medicine."
Following the keynote speech by Satoko Ito, caster and visiting professor at the Graduate Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, and a lecture by Akihiro Yachie, Trustee of Kanazawa University, the second half featured two panel discussions titled "The Present and Future of Noto Reconstruction" and "Cooperation of Industries Working on Noto Reconstruction." Panelists included Tsunao Watanabe of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability, Toshinobu Ishihara, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Kanazawa Branch of West Japan Railway Company, and Kentaro Tada, Representative of the Wakura Onsen Creative Reconstruction Town Development Promotion Council, exchanged opinions on the challenges in promoting creative reconstruction and the importance of collaboration between industry, academia and government based on their efforts and experiences over the past year and a half. More than 600 people participated in this forum, both at the venue and online, and deepened discussions on the current status of Noto reconstruction and the prospects for the future society.
Kanazawa University has been conducting diverse educational and research activities in the field of the Noto Peninsula, making the most of the rich nature of Satoyama and Satoumi. We will continue to work toward the creative reconstruction of Noto in cooperation with various local governments and related organizations.
